WEBINAR: Hungary's high-stakes election
On April 12, Hungary heads to the polls in what is set to be a historic, high-stakes election. For the first time since Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party secured a constitutional supermajority in 2010, Fidesz’s grip on power is facing a serious challenge.
Péter Magyar rose to prominence in the wake of a major scandal in early 2024 that shook the foundations of Fidesz’s rule. Almost two years on, Magyar’s Tisza Party is consistently leading in the polls.
But who is Péter Magyar? What vision for Hungary’s future does he represent, and how does it differ from Orbán’s? And what, if anything, might the implications of this high-stakes election be for the European Union?
Think Tank EUROPA has invited Zsuzsanna Szelényi, founding director of the CEU Democracy Institute Leadership Academy and author of the acclaimed book Tainted Democracy: Viktor Orbán and the Subversion of Hungary, to unpack the upcoming election and what it could mean for the future of European politics.
Join us on March 27 from 09:00–09:45.
