The national federal elections on 23rd February are taking place in a time of crisis in Europe’s largest member state.
Elon Musk's support for AfD during the German election campaign and the Magdeburg Christmas market attack have highlighted the growing importance of domestic security and extremism for Germany's next government.
Other critical issues include managing irregular immigration while attracting skilled workers, safeguarding against cyberattacks, and defending democracy and the rule of law.
However, many argue that these challenges must take a backseat to addressing Germany's economic crisis that have left major companies like Volkswagen struggling, and citizens facing job insecurity and rising living costs.
